The Better Business Bureau movement started in the United States in 1912 and in Canada in 1935. Today under the Council of Better Business Bureaus Inc. of Arlington, Virginia, there are over 140 bureaus in Canada and The United States. |

BC OMBUDSMAN: The Office of the Ombudsman receives inquiries and complaints about the practices and services of public agencies within its jurisdiction. Our role is to impartially investigate these complaints to determine whether public agencies have acted fairly and reasonably, and whether their actions and decisions were consistent with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. Our services are provided free of charge. |

ALBERTA OMBUDSMAN determines administrative fairness. We respond to compliants of unfair treatment by provincial government authorities, designated professional organizations and the patient concerns resolution process of health authorities. |

OMBUDSMAN SASKATCHEWAN Ombudsman Saskatchewan is an independent office, headed by the Provincial Ombudsman. The Legislative Assembly appoints the Ombudsman. As a result, the office is separate from the government of the day and free to come to its own conclusions. Just as the Provincial Auditor holds the government accountable in matters of money, the Ombudsman holds the government accountable in matters of fairness. |

THE YUKON OMBUDSMAN is an independent investigator whose job it is to review administrative actions of the Yukon Government (YG). The Ombudsman can investigate complaints about how YG departments, agencies, commission and boards do business by reviewing their actions, decisions, practices and procedures. |

OMBUDSMAN of ONTARIO The Ombudsman investigates complaints about services provided by the government of Ontario and its organizations. He also conducts systemic investigations on important issues about government services, which can affect large numbers of people. Under the Ombudsman Act, individuals as well as government officials and staff working in government organizations are required to co-operate with the Ombudsman and provide information during an investigation. |

QUEBEC OMBUDSMAN The Québec Ombudsman is responsible for protecting citizens’ rights by intervening with departments and agencies of the Government of Québec, including those in the health and social services network, to correct any prejudicial situations affecting citizens individually or as a group. When necessary, it makes recommendations to the department, agency, or health and social service institution to correct errors, negligence, abuse, or unfair treatment. |

OMBUDSMAN MANITOBA The purpose is to promote fairness, equity and administrative accountability through the investigation of complaints by an independent and non-partisan Officer of the Legislative Assembly. Appointed by an all-party committee of the Legislature for a maximum of two six-year terms, the Ombudsman has broad powers to investigate, recommend, and to report publicly. |
